Great Ocean Road

It is one of Australia's natural crown jewels. Embracing the exotic and history, the Great Ocean Road is a perfect travel destination.

If you are going to visit the Great Ocean Road, you will most likely fly into Melbourne, and have a short drive south to Torque. Torque itself is Australia's surf capital and the official starting point of the Ocean Road.

Returned service members in the World War I built the "road" itself between 1919 and 1931 as a memorial to those who fought in the Great War. The attractions are completely natural limestone creations. The ocean is ceaselessly forming and carving away at the limestone. Because of constant changes, the coastline is famous for being extremely dangerous for maritime travel. Thus, visitors can be delighted by a lighthouse and ancient stories of shipwrecks.

The Ocean Road's main attractions are the 12 Apostles, London Bridge, and the Bay of Islands.

But there are two overlooked items that might also stir your fancy; The Arch and Grotto are both a lot quieter and less touristy than the famous attractions. Also, this will give you some time to walk around and experience the landscape. You should give yourself two days to travel the Great Ocean Road. Book a place to stay early, as sometimes it can be hard getting a place to stay. We recommend Port Campbell, which is a good base of operations to see the Apostles and London Bridge.

The Great Ocean Road is an amazing trip and you will see some of Australia's great natural wonders.
