Perth and the Sunset Coast

Perth, Australia is pretty much isolated from the rest of the world. But it is a great launching pad to experience Western Australia. Perth is a vibrant city, dating back to 1829 with (should be when) Captain Fremantle came to the area, now it has a population of well over a million people.

Really, Perth's main attractions are outside of the city itself. Outside of Perth, you will find the Golden Outback and the historic city of Fremantle. Also, there is the Coral Coast, where you can watch magnificent sunsets over the Indian Ocean.

On the Sunset Coast, you will find one of the neatest natural phenomena called the Pinnacles.

They seemingly come out of nowhere, with the white sand along the Indian Ocean, and then you see this bright yellow sand. There are literally thousands of these limestone towers coming out of the ground. Visitors can be delighted to travel by foot or car around the Pinnacles. You can even touch them.

Now, how in the heck did these guys, or girls, come into existence anyhow? Completely by nature, putting it pretty simply. From the rain, lime seeped down into the dunes that used to be here. Then plants started to grow, which eventually made cracks, then the wind started to blow and over hundreds of years, it took all of the loose sand and earth away, leaving what we call the Pinnacles today.

They are great to experience. The drive from Perth is a long way, but we were pleasantly surprised at what we saw.
