Northern Tasmania

One of the must-sees in Tasmania is Cradle Mountain. As a World Heritage Site, Lake St. Clair National Park's Cradle Mountain is listed as one of the most precious places on earth. We took a visit on a rainy day, and were wowed by the rustic beauty of the place.

We are not negative folk, but it is our opinion to stay away from Queenstown, Tasmania. Being a strip mine laden land, we just think it is a bit sad. Some call it God's land, but it might be more for the devil, and not the Tasmanian one, he is too cute to be in Queenstown.

With that said, Straughn, Tasmania is a nice little place to stop in for a night's stay. It is a quaint little fishing village that offers little cottages and nice hotel rooms to stay. You can walk along the streets to get to and fro. Straughn has some good eateries as well, and even better, they are very well priced.

Ferries from Melbourne and Sydney allow visitors to bring their car to Tasmania, or arrive by coach. Devonport is where, by large, the ferries meet Tasmania. This is where some people get their first glimpse of Tasmania. Do not judge Tasmania by Devonport though, it is a bit small and you will be sure to be delighted once you travel around.

Launceston is Tasmania's second largest city. Cataract Gorge is a must-see if you are going to visit Launceston.

It is the town's crown jewel when it comes to tourism. Even being the second largest city in Tasmania, Launceston is not all that big. It has some nice places to have lunch and dinner, but we definitely believe Hobart is the star city in Tasmania if you are looking for an urban feel.

Launceston is famous for its top golf course. Folks fly in the morning to have a play on the course, and then fly out at night. Launceston has a nice small town feel, but there is not a heck of a lot to do there if you are a tourist.

Tasmania's oldest national park is Mount Field. You can find some of the tallest Eucalypt trees in the world here. You will be sure to take a nice stroll up through the rainforest; it is amazing. Then, you will be greeted by some of the most amazing waterfalls in Australia.

Russell Falls have a kind of tiered structure to them. Almost like getting two water falls in one. Folks that visit the falls stand at the bottom and look up in wonder. We had a special chance to go to the second set tier of the falls and were also flabbergasted that we were lucky enough to see something so grand.
